Hi, I'm Tom. I'm a solutions architect based in Poole, and I've spent the last twenty years building software in financial services, in the NHS, and inside a digital agency delivering websites for medium and large enterprises. These days my focus is architecture and AI: using it to build solutions faster, and designing solutions that have it built in.
By day I work at Allianz Technology as a Senior Solutions Architect. Outside that, in 2025 I founded Seamless Logic to do the same kind of work on my own terms.
Seamless Logic
Seamless Logic is where most of my own building and thinking happens these days. It exists for two related reasons: to build applications that have AI at their foundation rather than bolted on as an afterthought, and to advise other organisations doing the same. If you're trying to work out where AI actually fits inside your product, your team, or your roadmap, that's the conversation I want to be having.
You can find more at www.seamless-logic.com.
How I got here
Before founding Seamless Logic I led the in-house web team at LV= General Insurance, having moved across from the agency side after several years as Development Director at Redweb. My first proper job was at System C Healthcare, writing patient administration systems for NHS hospitals. At Allianz I design solutions across cloud, hybrid and on-premises environments, and spend a fair amount of time helping older infrastructure get out of the way of new ideas.
What I tend to write about
Most of what ends up on the blog comes from things I've bumped into during the day job. How to think about architecture in messy, real-world environments. What "using AI" actually looks like when you've got compliance, legacy systems, and a roadmap to keep moving. Notes on engineering leadership, and the odd reflection on what life is actually like inside a large technology organisation.
I'm not trying to write definitive guides. I'm writing the things I wish I'd been told a few years earlier.
A few things I'm proud of
- Working with Google to halve the page load time on the LV= website, which had a measurable effect on conversions and made me far more interested in performance than I'd expected to be.
- Building the original LV= My Account, which passed a million sign-ups in its first year.
- Speaking on machine learning at the Sitecore Symposium in Las Vegas, back when most people in the room were still working out what to do with it.
- Setting up the Dorset Sitecore User Group, which grew to forty-odd developers swapping notes over a drink.
- Becoming a Chartered Manager through the CMI, partly because I wanted to take the people side of the job as seriously as the technical side.
Outside work
I represent UK colleagues on Allianz's European Works Council, which has taken me to Munich a few times and given me a much better appreciation of how decisions actually get made inside a large organisation.
When I'm not at a screen I'm usually somewhere on the Dorset coast.
